National Independence day 2013 Observed
National Independence day 2013 was celebrated with due importance at BSRI. For that event a flag hosting ceremony was led by Dr. Kamal Humayun Kabir, Director General. After that a procession of BSRI scientists, and staff was bound to Bijoy Stambha to pay their floral gratitude for the people who sacrifice their life during liberation war. Annual sports of BSRI were also organized on that day. In spite of that a special prayer was also organized at BSRI Maszid. A colourful lighting, a discussion meeting, prize giving ceremony and a cultural programme were also organized on that event. A separate programme was also organized by BSRI School on that event.
Birth day of Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibur Rahman & National Childrens' Day was observed at BSRI
Birth day of Bangabandhu Shaikh Mujibur Rahman & National Childrens' Day was observed colourfully with due respect at BSRI. On this occassion BSRI high school organized some cultural competitions among the students. A discussion meeting was arranged on 11AM at ASM Kamal Uddin Memorial Hall. Among others Dr. Kamal Humayun Kabir, Director General of BSRI discussed as cheif guest. Directors of BSRI and chairman of academic committee of BSRI high school were also present as special guest. Scientist, officers, and staff of BSRI discussed the whole work and life of Bangbandhu. Head master of BSRI high School was on the Chair. After that a colourfull cultural event was presented by all prize winner students. In the second part of the day another live cultural programme was also organized. Artist from the BSRI and Ishurdi locality were attended at that events.
Farmers' Day Observed at RSRS, Gazipur
A Farmers' Day on Production and Preservation of Hygenic gur was organized on 26 February at RSRS Gazipur. Mr. Jamsher Ahamad Khondaker, Jt. Sec (Res) & Dr. Motlubor Rahman, Ex. Chairman (Retd.), BARC were present as Chief Gguest and Guest of Honour respectively. Dr. Kamal Humayun Kabir, Director General, BSRI Chaired the ceremony and Mr. Rafiqul Alam, CSO & Head Physiology & Sugar Chemistry presented the key-note paper. A good number of progressive farmers attended the programme.

Annual Research Programme Review (Internal) Workshop 2012-2013 Was Held
Annual Research Programme Review Workshop 2012-2013 (Internal) was Held at 4-6 September 2012. In an inauguration session, Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI was present as chief guest. Dr. SM Nurun Nahar, Director (Research) chaired the session. All scientists from Head Quarter, Regional Stations and Sub-stations attended the workshop.
National Mourning Day Observed
The National Mourning Day- 2012 and 37th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed at BSRI with a call for building an exploitation-free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu.
BSRI and Ikkhu Gobeshana high school chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day. The programme included hoisting of national flag at half- mast atop, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, one-minute silence and discussion on Bangabandhu.
Special prayers were offered at BSRI Jame Mosjid seeking divine blessings for departed soul of Father of the Nation and continuous peace, prosperity, progress of the country and its people.
Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar DG, BSRI attended the programmes. Scientists and other speakers focused on the life, deeds and contribution of
architect of independence, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the
greatest son of the soil and the greatest Bangalee of all time.

Workshop on Sugarbeet was held on 27 June 2012 at BSRI
BSRI Research-Extension Workshop
BSRI Research-Extension Workshop have been completed during 19-20 June 2012. Dr. Gopal Chandra Paul, Ex DG BSRI launched the workshop as chief Guest. Participants from different organizations like DAE, BSFIC, NGOs and some progressive farmers attended the workshop. Mr. TM Monjurul Islam, Director (Cash Crop), DAE and Mr. Md. Solaiman Khan, Chief (TS), BSFIC were also present as special guests while Mr. Md.Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI chaired the occasion.
Media Based Workshop Held
Media based workshop for the next three months concluded at BSRI. On occasion a colourful opening ceremony was conducted at Yasin Ali Training Building on 07 June. Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI was present as chief guest, While Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Director, AIS was on the chair.The workshop was funded by the project `Create Employment Opportunities of Char Dwellers in Greater Rangpur Districts Through Sugarcane Cultivation'. About 60 participants from different organizations including AIS, BARI, B. Betar, participated at that workshop.
DG BSRI as well as New Scientists Received Warm Reception
Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI received a warm reception from BSRI Scientists Association on 30-05-2012. On that occassion a discussion meeting was also held with Dr. Md. Lutful Kabir, Vice President, of BSRI Scientists Assiciation was on the Chair. On the same day newly recruted scientists were also rececived a floral reception from the President of BSRI Scientists Association & DG, BSRI Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar.

A Seminar On Status of Biological Nitrogen Fixation (BNF) Research of Sugarcane in Bangladesh was presented by Mr. Dulal Miah, Scientific Officeer at Yasin Ali Training Building on 30-05-2012. All scientist of BSRI was present and Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar Director General, BSRI was on the Chair.
Training of New Scientists Have been Finished
Eight day long orientation course of newly recruited scientists have been finished from 23-30 April 2012. On that occasion an inaugural session was held at Yasin Ali Training Building on 23 April. Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI, was the chief guest and Dr. SUK Eusufzai, Director (TOT) was on the chair. Director (Research) & Heads of all division were also present at time.
Training Workshop on Procurement and Financial Management
A two day long training workshop on Procurement and Financial Management was organized at BSRI on 16-17 April 2012. Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG, launched the workshop as chief guest. Dr. Md. Nurul Islam, Director PIU-NATP, DAE was the guest speaker on PPR 2008 while other 6 speakers were also talked on different issues on Financial management. The workshop was funded by the project "Create employment opportunities of Greater Rangpur Districts through Sugarcane cultivation".
Pehala Baishakh Celebrated
Pahela Baishakh new years day of Bangla 1419 was celebrated colourfully at BSRI. On that event, celebration of Pantha-Ilish was at 8.00AM and a colourful cultural night was also presented at 7 PM followed by dinner at BSRI auditorium. Mr. Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI launched all the events which were jointly organized by the Officers club and Ladies club of BSRI.
Seminar On Herbicide of Sugarcane
A seminar on Efficacy of herbicide Round Up 41 Sl in controlling broad leaf weeds of sugarcane was organized at Yasin Ali training Building, BSRI on 11 April 2012. Mr. Md. Abu Taher Sohel, SO was the speaker of that seminar. Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG chaired the seminar and all scientists of BSRI attended the same.
Board meeting was held
34th Board meeting of BSRI Management Board was held on 09-04-12 at Conference room of BARC. Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG, and Chairman of the Baord presided the meeting. Many important decisions including recruitment of new Scientists were taken at this meeting.

Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, DG BSRI was given a warm reception by Plant Genetic Resource Center of BAU on 25 March 2012. On that Occation the Director of Plant Genetic Resource Center of BAU, Prefessor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahim together with more than 100 students came to BSRI and present a nice Crest to Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, as he was selected DG of BSRI.
National Language Martyrs day and International Mother language Day 2012 Observed
National Language Martyrs day and International Mothers language Day 2012 was celebrated with due iportance at BSRI. For that event a Provat Ferry (Mourning procession) was followed the campus. After that Director General Md. Khairul Bashar hosted the national flag (halfmast) in front of a big gathering of Scientists, staff, teachers, students, and other general people. A general discussion was also held at Institute's Auditorium. The Director General Mr. Md Khairul Bashar was presided over the discussion meeting. DR. SUK Eusufzai, CSO, DR Md. Khalilur Rahman, CSO, DR. Ibrahim Talukder, CSO, among others were talked on this occassion. Furthermore, a general prayer for the country and for the language martyrs who sacrificed their lives was also observed at BSRI maszid.
Workshop on Tropical Sugarbeet
A day long workshop was held at BSRI on March 08, 2012. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Md. Khairul Bashar, Director General, BSRI. Dr. Md. Ismail Hossain, Professor of BSMRAU was present as Chief Guest. Three papers were presented as follows: 1. Agronomic Management of Tropical Sugarbeet and Present Crop Conditions of Different Locations By Dr. M. Khalilur Rahman, 2. Diseases of Tropical Sugarbeet and its Management By Dr. Md. Ibrahim Talukder and 3. Insects pests of Tropical Sugarbeet and its Management By Dr. Md. Abdullah. Participants from different organizations like BAU, BSMRAU, DU, BARI, BRRI and Syngenta were attended in the workshop. A number of recommendations were developed at the workshop.
Annual Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology Conference 2011
Annual Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology Conference 2011 was held at BSRI on 6-7 January 2012. The conference was launched by the Chief Guest Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University. Dr. Wais Kabir, Executive Chairman, BARC was present as Special Guest. The programme was chaired by Mr. Md Khairul Bashar, DG, BSRI. President of BAPTC & B Professor Dr. M. Mozammel Haque was also present. Dr. Md. Amzad Hossain present the welcome address and Prof. Dr. Sk. Shamimul Alam presented the vote of thanks on that event.
A total of 15 Research Papers were presented in two sessions on that events. Participants from different organizations like DU, BAU, RU, IU, KU, PSTU, HDSTU, BARI, BRRI, BCSIR etc. were attended.
Research Extension Workshop 2011:
BSRI Research Extension Workshop was held on May28-29, 2011 at Yasin Ali Training Building, BSRI campus, Ishurdi, Pabna. Secretary, MOA inaugurated the workshop.
Mr. H T Imam visited BSRI:
Mr. H T Imam, Adviser to the Honourable PM (Establishment and Administration Affairs) visited BSRI on 13-14 September 2010. He showed his interest about biotechnological research laboratories and other researches to combat the effects of climate change. He also exchanged his views with the scientists of BSRI.

Mr. AHM Delwar Hossain, Ex-Director General of BSRI presided over the seminar. Dr MA Samad Miah, DG BSRI; Dr. Md. Sharifur Rahman, Ex-Director (research), BSRI; Dr. Md. BSRI Signed a Memorandum of Agreement with CIMMYT:
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute (BSRI) and The Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia (CSISA) acting for the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) was signed on July 02, 2009 concerning scientific and technical collaboration on cereal and sugarcane based farming systems research and development. Dr. M A Samad Miah, Director General of BSRI and Dr. Raj K. Gupta, Regional Coordinator (DACST) of CSISA & CIMMYT Representative for India and Bangladesh signed the MOA on behalf of their respective organizations. Dr. M A Hamid Miah, Ex-Vice chairman, BARC and Dr. J K Ladha was present as witness.
