Main objectives
-
Germplasm collection from abroad and characterization.
- Screening sugarbeet varieties suitable for cultivation in Bangladesh.
- Development of agro-technologies (planting & harvesting times, weed and pest management, cultural practices etc.) for sugarbeet cultivation.
- Development technologies for true seed production, seedling raising and micro propagation of sugarbeet.
- Development post harvest technologies and marketing systems of produced sugarbeet for sugar and other by-products.
- Installation of “Mini Sugar Processing Unit” (Diffuser and other instruments).
- Economic viability of sugarbeet as an alternate crop and raw material both for farmer and the sugar millers.
Targets
- Sugarbeet Storage-cum-mini Laboratory (160 sqm), Mini Temperature Control Room (50 sqm) and Irrigation Channel (250 rm) will be established
- 540 Extension Officer/worker will be trained up to disseminate the sugarbeet cultivation technologies
- 20 Field Day and 6 Workshop/Seminar will be arranged.
